Description

Learning from and playing off each other’s design ideas, the women of Gee’s Bend—a community nestled in a tight crook of the Alabama River in Boykin, Alabama—developed a spirited and inventive quilting practice that fuses tradition with individual inspiration. Polly Bennett learned to quilt as a child but created this quilt at the age of eighty using many strips of fabric patterned with floral designs.
