Description

Not long after its founding in 1966, the Freedom Quilting Bee, a cooperative that supported the work of quilters in Alberta and nearby Gee’s Bend, Alabama, inspired Flora Moore to start making her own quilts. In 1972, the department store Sears, Roebuck contracted members of the Freedom Quilting Bee to create corduroy pillow covers. This quilt’s many corduroy and velveteen patches—which Moore arrayed in a dizzying composition full of eye-bending contrasts—may have come from scraps of fabric used to create those covers.
