Description

Like Flora Moore’s One Patch Quilt, on view nearby, this quilt comprises hundreds of patches set together in irregular rows and columns. These patches house diamonds that create added visual complexity and movement across the textile. The quilter who made this is not known by name but wrote the word “Peaches” on the back of the quilt, which could be the artist’s nickname or the title of the quilt. If the latter, then the many diamonds dancing across the top may be the abstracted forms of peaches with pits at their centers.
